Eight calculators · four practical job routes

Landscaping Calculators

Choose the job you are measuring, then use only the calculators that match its material layers. Fencing, paving, gravel, soil, mulch and turf are kept separate so one convenient total never hides product-specific coverage, depth or allowance assumptions.

Four routes through the eight calculators

Some tools share the same measured area, but their outputs are not interchangeable. Use the route that matches the work, then verify each material against the actual product or supplier data.

01
Fencing & post setting

Set out the fence, then quantify the post mix

The panel layout tells you how many bays and base post positions the run needs. Post-mix quantity is a separate purchasing check using the real post count and verified product yield or bags-per-post rate.

Start

Fence Panel Calculator

Measure the panelled run and use the actual panel width. Keep gates, corners and other known layout extras explicit.

Then

Postcrete Bag Calculator

Use the real post count, then convert with a verified bags-per-post rate or known fill volume and actual bag yield.

02
Patios & hard landscaping

Use one measured patio area for two separate material layers

Paving coverage and compacted sub-base are different calculations. They can start from the same measured patio area, but one depends on the chosen paving product and the other on the specified compacted base depth and supplier conversion.

Surface

Paving Slab Calculator

Use actual slab dimensions or, preferably where available, the manufacturer or supplier's stated pack coverage.

Base

Patio Sub-Base Calculator

Calculate compacted design volume from area and the specified depth, then use real supplier density or stated bag coverage for ordering.

03
Gravel & loose surfaces

Calculate the loose surface layer on its own

Use the actual area and chosen gravel depth to get the base volume first. Convert to tonnes or whole supplier units only when you have the real density or product coverage.

Loose surface

Gravel Calculator

Keeps base m³ and litres visible before any supplier-specific purchasing conversion.

04
Soil, beds & lawns

Work out the soil volume, then choose the finish

Topsoil, mulch and turf answer different questions. Calculate soil volume where needed, then branch to mulch/bark for beds or turf rolls for a lawn rather than combining them into one generic garden quantity.

Mulch & Bark Calculator

Calculate the loose mulch layer, then convert with the actual supplier unit volume or stated coverage.

Whole-job planning

Planning a patio rather than one quantity?

The individual calculators are best when you want to inspect one material closely. The Patio Materials Estimator gives you a broader route while keeping paving and base assumptions visible.

Measure & verify

Useful landscaping guidance

Use these when you need help with product coverage, volume conversion or supplier data before entering a quantity.

What these landscaping calculators deliberately keep separate

Measure the real jobUse the actual fence run, patio area, lawn area or bed area rather than a generic garden size.
Enter the real product dataPanel width, paving coverage, density, bag volume and turf coverage belong to the product or supplier you have chosen.
Add extra deliberatelyThe rebuilt calculators start at 0% extra. Add cutting, breakage, spare or contingency only when the real layout justifies it.

These are quantity estimators, not structural, drainage, ground-condition or installation-design tools. Verify final quantities against drawings, site measurements, the chosen product/system guidance and supplier information before ordering.
