How the render volume calculation works

Volume (litres) = area (m²) × thickness (mm)

Because 1 m² × 1 mm = 1 litre. Divide litres by 1,000 for cubic metres.

Example

50 m² × 15 mm = 750 litres = 0.750 m³.

With the calculator left at its 0% default allowance, the planning volume remains 0.750 m³.

Use the total designed render build-up

The calculator does not decide how thick your render should be. Enter the total thickness specified for the system you are actually using. If a system has separate coats, add their specified thicknesses together before entering the total.

That distinction matters because real render systems differ. For example, Weber’s current weberpral M information describes different application thicknesses for scraped, roughcast and dry-dash finishes. The correct thickness therefore comes from the selected system/product information, not from a universal calculator default.

Why this calculator does not guess bags of render

Wet geometric volume and bag quantity are not interchangeable without product-specific data. Weber’s render guidance states that coverage varies between products and the thickness at which they are applied. Its weberpral M product page also shows that application thickness changes with the selected finish.

Do not convert this result using a generic render density

A universal kg/m³ or “bags per cubic metre” assumption would make the tool look more complete while making the answer less reliable. Different pre-blended renders and systems have their own consumption figures, application build-ups and finishing losses.

What should I use for the extra allowance?

There is deliberately no automatic 10% added to every job. Some manufacturers publish waste guidance for particular products or application methods, while actual site loss can also depend on substrate condition, detailing, machine hoses and finish. Enter an allowance only when you have a reason to use it.

The calculator always shows the pure geometric volume first so you can distinguish measurement from your planning allowance.

Render volume versus render area

Square metres describe the surface to cover. Cubic metres or litres describe the wet geometric volume at a chosen thickness. A 10 mm layer uses 10 litres of geometric volume per square metre; a 15 mm layer uses 15 litres per square metre. That is geometry, not a claim about how many kilograms or bags a specific render product will require.

How do I calculate render volume?

Multiply the render area in square metres by the total render thickness in millimetres. The result is litres. Divide by 1,000 for cubic metres.

Should I add the thickness of several coats together?

Yes, if those coat thicknesses are part of the specified system build-up. Add the specified thicknesses and enter the total. Do not assume every render system has the same number or thickness of coats.

How many bags of render do I need?

Use the current manufacturer coverage or consumption data for the exact product, thickness and finish. This calculator intentionally does not invent a universal bags-per-volume conversion.

Should I deduct windows and doors?

Is 10% waste automatically added?

No. Extra allowance starts at 0% and is fully editable, so the base geometric volume is never hidden behind an assumed waste factor.
