Masonry & Concrete estimating guides

Bricks, blocks, mortar and concrete quantity tools for UK building projects.

What this topic covers

Start with wall area or pour volume, then apply the material rate. Keep bricks, blocks, mortar, concrete and ingredient quantities as separate calculations so each assumption can be checked.

Recommended estimating sequence

  1. Measure the job and keep the original dimensions.
  2. Calculate the base area, volume or length with compatible units.
  3. Replace variable defaults with the actual product or supplier information.
  4. Add a visible cutting, breakage or ordering allowance only where it is justified.
  5. Round the result to whole packs, bags or stock lengths at the purchasing stage.

Quantity estimating helps with planning and ordering. It does not replace structural design, project specifications, manufacturer instructions or regulatory approval where those are required.
